What to do if you don't have recent student or alumni survey data?

Different approaches to capturing content for ratings and reviews

Many schools annually or biannually survey students through a consultant such as Ruffalo Noel Levitz or Hanover Research, which can provide high value content to use in publishing your ratings and reviews. You may be sitting on a wealth of great content and have never thought of leveraging it by converting it to ratings and reviews.

For those organizations without student survey data, or for those who lack recent data, our clients have taken a few different approaches to capturing student and/or alumni feedback. All or one may be appropriate, and we can help you decide which path fits your organization’s needs.

  1. Alumni – we have worked with both undergraduate and graduate programs who are reaching out to alumni to capture feedback using our platform.  Alumni represent some of your best advocates, they can speak to the benefits of completing their education at your institution, and prospective students and parents value insights and lessons learned from those who completed their education.
  2. Seniors – for undergraduate programs seniors represent a great source of insight as they understand and can speak to the current experiences within specific academic programs, and for prospective students they provide a perspective closer to that of a peer.  Many students also have completed some type of internship and can speak to application of what they have learned during the program.
  3. All Students – for surveys focused on college or university-wide attributes surveying all students can work very well.  Many surveys conducted by consulting firms are focused on questions that apply to all students versus questions around specific programs.  For graduate and continuing education programs surveying current students, along with alumni, can be a very effective way to gain the experience of both those in the program and outside.

What audience is most appropriate may also be influenced by what audience is most accessible via email or social channels, and whether there are other internal initiatives also driving the design and fielding of the survey.

Our team can work with your institution to ensure you have the right questions going to the right audience at the right time to support your marketing and organizational initiatives.
